About the Team

Our team develops advanced LiDAR systems that enable precise perception for autonomous vehicles and robotics. We bring together experts in mechanical design, optics, and electronics to create reliable, high-performance solutions.

About the Role

As a Design Engineer, you will design, build, and test LiDAR components and assemblies. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop robust, innovative systems that perform in demanding environments.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop innovative LiDAR systems, focusing on optimizing optical, mechanical, and electronic components.
  • Design and develop precision mechanical systems for electronic components, ensuring alignment with industry standards and performance specifications.
  • Develop mechanical and material solutions such as gaskets, seals, and potting compounds to ensure airtight and watertight integrity of electronic enclosures.
  • Select appropriate components, such as connectors, seals, and enclosures, that are compliant with IP67+ standards and capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions.
  • Build and test prototypes to validate system performance against design specifications for range, resolution, and signal processing.
  • Lead waterproof testing processes, including immersion, spray, and high-pressure water tests, to validate that electronics meet IP67 or higher rating requirements.
  • Implement effective thermal management solutions to ensure that heat dissipation does not compromise the waterproof design of the electronics.
  • Conduct rigorous testing of LiDAR systems to ensure precision and reliability across varying environmental conditions, such as rain, fog, and dust.
  • Execute detailed calibration of LiDAR sensors to achieve high accuracy in real-world applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless integration of LiDAR modules into broader systems, including automotive safety and robotics platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, optimizing system performance in terms of power efficiency, range, and data accuracy.
  • Lead research efforts on next-generation LiDAR technologies, such as solid-state or MEMS-based systems, to enhance cost-effectiveness and system durability.
  • Document design workflows, experimental configurations, and outcomes to support continuous development and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to evaluate and source new components and materials that improve LiDAR system performance.
  • Support the development and refinement of algorithms for processing LiDAR data efficiently.

What You'll Need

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optics or a related field. Foreign equivalent is accepted.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the design and development of mechanical systems, including knowledge of optomechanical assemblies for LiDAR systems, thermal management and mechanical stress analysis for high-precision components, designing IP67+ rated electronics, ensuring durability and protection against water and dust ingress in harsh environments.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) for designing LiDAR components such as mirrors, scanners, and enclosures (at least 10 years preferably in SolidWorks is an advantage).
  • 3+ years of experience in optical systems related to LiDAR, including the design of laser emitters, optical lenses, and detectors.
  • 10+ years of experience with prototyping mechanical parts for LiDAR systems, including rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical and optical issues during the development and integration of LiDAR systems.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with electrical, software, and optical engineers to ensure seamless system integration, project managers, suppliers, and external partners.
  • 3+ years of experience in using precision tools for assembling optical and mechanical components, ensuring alignment and calibration.
  • Experience with cleanroom practices or contamination control in optics manufacturing is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in researching and developing new mechanical and optical solutions to improve LiDAR performance (e.g., MEMS mirrors, solid-state designs).
  • Ability to stay updated on emerging technologies in LiDAR and mechanical design.
